My Very First Poem

I have never written one before. This is the very first EVER! Personally it's kinda childish but I guess that's expected.

Hope is what I live by
The hope of the waiting land
The hope of familiar faces
The hope that I shall one day
Be one with the world I left
Be back in the life I know
Be blessed by the same air each day
Be surrounded by the same sounds
There is hope in the calls of my past
Hope in the names they hold
Hope in the name they call me
And hope in the names of the earth.

And each day I rise
To the hope of a Golden Sun
A sun that warms my world
And bakes the dusty, brown earth
For me to be able to say:
Someday I shall be home.
That day will dawn and bring forth
Promises made by the sun.
The promise of a scorched dry earth,
The promise of the shelter on the porch
The promise of the singing mynah
The promise of a Mango Tree.

In hope I wait on
While in this world around me,
This alien world that I inhabit,
I am reminded each day that I do not belong
My skin is a different darker shade,
My hair is black and my face round,
My eyes are not like the ocean,
I’m fluent in the wrong language,
And I don’t know the right one.
And every single day I find
Ways in which I stand out,
And every day I long to be home.
