Here's an inspiring article. Read it and was reminiscing about Grant Hill and his career. There's an intensely sad and disturbing moment right before you realize he's back. He's healthy again. He's on his feet. God bless him and keep him safe. The man has suffered enough pain.
For those of you don't know, Grant Hill was the basketball phenom out of Duke, drafted first over all in 1994, who was going to fill the void left by Michael whenever he left. Once Michael was gone, Hill was going to be The Man. He was The Man the first six years at Detroit. He was Rookie of the Year, was amongst the highest scorers each year for those six seasons, member of the gold-medal Dream Team in Atlanta '96 and was a coaches dream. He could play three positions on the floor, had a great attitude and absolute composure under pressure. His almost maniacal physical skills were supplemented perfectly with an ability to lead and make his team better--a mark of champions.
In 2000, he was traded to Miami. Yet again he was part of a dream where he was expected to team up with one of the best Two-Guard/Small-Forward in the game to form a deadly Jordan-Pippen combo. Tracy McGrady never really got to play with a healthy Hill for long. Hill's ankle turned gimpy due to an injury which occurred the season before. His first surgery was in April 2000. Since then he has had three more on the same left ankle. He has attempted comebacks but has only managed to reaggravate the ankle. This season is the most games he has played in over 4 years.
Hs comeback is comaprable to that of Lance Armstrong. No, Hill's injury was not life-threatening but it did devestate his career. He was sidelined for almost 4 full seasons. To come back from such a trying experience and to be able to perform at the high level that he has maintained Since November is awe-inspiring. Although the TMac-Hill formula was never tested fully, Hill now has "Stevie Franchise" to be the Batman to his Robin. Hill enjoys being the helper. He is the facilitator, the leader, the one who makes all those around him look good. In that, lies his own greatness!
As you can all probably tell by now, I love this man. He was the reason i wanted to play this game. Everyone had Michael Jordan to look upto; I saw only Grant Hill. My first real basketball ad was a Sprite ad that Hill made. My first basketball shoes were Converse All-Stars which Hill wore through his first two seasons. The first jersey I ever wanted was Hill's No. 33 Detroit jersey. I did not want to be Michael or David or Shaq or Kobe or any of those other superstars. In my own head, I was Grant Hill.
"Oh, Man. Grant Hill! Grant Hill drinks Sprite?! Grant Hill drinks Sprite!"
Why do you think I love Sprite so much?!

I never saw Grant Hill play in Detroit . . the first basketball was the Heat - Knicks series in 2000. But after that I just read tons and tons about Grant Hill and he's a great player and an even better guy. Who did Detroit get for the trade? Shaq goes to Lakers, Hill to Magic . . were they both free agents?
Shaq was a free agent. Hill was in a sign-and-trade b/w orlando and detroit. the pistons got Chucky Atkins and Ben Wallace in the deal. the magic were rebuilding after shaq left. they got TMac from the raptors in a trade. he'd played a couple of seasons with his cuzin Vince =P in toronto.
TMac and Hill were supposed to be the deliverers for the Magic who'd lost out during the Shaq-Penny years coz Shaq n Penny didn't get along and Penny was injured too often. Penny is Anfernee Hardaway in case u dont know.
