I'm in love. I've fallen in love. Madly--almost religiously. The problem is that this love has nothing to with passion and that the emotion is for a man. Knowing exactly how straight I really am, you can rest assured that this love is asexual. Like all forms of love, my devotion demands a deification of the object of my affection. Hence, I have decided that I'm going to get a little statuette made and start worshipping the idol. I'll place it in the little alcove of my room shelf, decorate the borders with little totems and tokens, light scented candles and incense, dim the lights and get to my prayers.
I will worship the big glasses. I will worship the salt-pepper, cropped hair. I will worship the bushy moustache. I will worship the animated gesticulation. I will worship the dynamic movement. I will worship the inflection of the voice. I will worship the perfect rolling of the R's. I will worship the flawless recitation. I will worship the memorized poetry.
More than anything else, I will worship the seemingly boundless amounts of literary, philosophical and even popular-media knowledge.
Everyone aspires to please the deity they worship. I aspire to be him.
