Al Your Pal hosts a 4 hours show on City FM 89, every Sunday night at 11.00 pm.The show is called Rock Switch. He plays four hours of non-stop rock. He's a rock freak and knows enough about the genre to fill a book. His own music collection is gargantuan. He despises most rock being produced today, detests Linkin Park, amuses himself with the crappy music taste of his callers, thinks Slash is nothing without Axl Rose and loves guitars and guitaring in his music. He also owns a music store in the L-Block market, DHA, Lahore.
Those who've ever done any particular music or video shopping in Defense have most definitely ended up one time or another at Jukebox. I myself have often walked in that store around or after midnight to pick up a few movies or get my hands on some music. I now own 2 DMB albums that I've bought from there which I couldn't find anywhere else. The last thing I expected last night though was to walk into Jukebox and chat up the guy at the counter. He's 32, confident and cocky and airs his opinion readily. He can easily blast you for not having watched Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. He can easily tell you off when you haven't watched SinCity yet simply 'cause you thought it was in B&W. He'll tell you you have no idea what being old feels like even if you're 23 and hanging out with 19-year-olds all day. Old is when you're 32, married, and hanging out with 23-year-olds!
He will then proceed to hang out with a 23-year-old and a 21-year-old for the next 1.5 hours expanding their musical horizons. he will take you into his office and make you listen to the best rock--with a twist. He'll introduce you to heavier sttuff than you've ever heard. He'll bring out the Megadeath and Judas Priest music. He'll throw Metallica at you like you've never heard before. With every song, you'll see the passion this man has for his music. He'll tell you he was there when Slash performed with Michael Jackson. He attended a Pink Floyd "Pulse" concert. He'll go insane over Pentera songs with leads and riffs. Then he'll tell you what he's playing on his show next week. He'll make you listen to what he's played before.
Before you know it, it's been an hour and a half and it's 2.30 in the night. You then walk out and he asks you to tune your car-radio to 90.5 and turns his iTrip on! You then listen to Spanish rock before you drive off, completely awed by a man with a passion; amazed by a man living his passion.
Ali Bhai, like I said before, I envy you!
